Instilling a Heart of Thanksgiving in our Children
November 21, 2018Parents, Just Say No to Santa Claus!
December 20, 2018Journaling is an important aspect of Threshold Church’s Kids Ministry. Regularly we emphasize the value of keeping track of what God is doing in our lives. It is so easy to forget what God has spoken to us, prayers He has answered on our behalf, and the miraculous ways He has shown Himself faithful to us in a personal way.
Countless times throughout Scripture, the Lord commands us to remember His great works and the wonders He’s done. I don’t think this was just for the Israelites. It is very applicable to our lives today.
“O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.” (Psalm 71:17)
Awhile back one of my daughters was feeling sad and frustrated. She complained to me that she felt like she never heard from God, or that she’s never really had a significant encounter with Him. Not only was I able tell her that this was simply not true, I was able to show her—with her own words—that this was not true.
Together we pulled out her journal and read it. By the end of our time together, she was beaming from ear to ear! She was so encouraged by all that God had spoken to her and by all the different ways she personally encountered the Lord in the last year or so.
Below are a few excerpts from my daughter’s journal that she gave me permission to share. These are not just stories, they are her personal revelations from the Lord and we both pray that it will encourage you to instill the value of journaling in your children.
May we never forget the value God places on the “least of these.” God speaks to the little ones and He wants a personal relationship with them right now. I encourage you to instill in your child the value of journaling their walk with the Lord. May your faith continue to build as you see how God speaks to and moves in children!
